mini Howto – Migrate the Donkey

with one comment

If you want to migrate between different ed2k clients (emule to edonkey for example) in linux the best way is to fireup an ed2k server and let the server migrate your temp files.

There are lots of “eservers” out there,probably the best is/was lugdunum and you can grab it from here
You won’t need any config,just uncompress and run it by command line,chmod it to be executable if you need it.
Lugdunum should start in interactive mode , with “?” you can see all the command,in particular “vo” shows all the options the server is running with.The only thing I needed to change was the server ip address so simply write
thisIP=192.168.1.4
where 192.168.1.4 is my nic address,probably yours will be different.If you don’t plan to migrate between different machines on the same lan you can simply put 127.0.0.1 there (not tested).
vo should show something like this:
vo
maxClients=1000 softLimit=1000 hardLimit=4000 thisIP=192.168.1.4 port=4661
nofile: 1024/1024

Now you can fireup your clients and connect them to your new server.Make sure you have unchecked all the filter options of your clients,mostly you will need to uncheck the “FilterLanIP” option.Here’s a ed2k server link,change the “YOURSERVERIPHERE” string with the server ip you set previously..

ed2k://|server|YOURSERVERIPHERE|4661|/

For checking go to lugdunum and launch “vc” you should see 2 clients there.If you did well and both clients DO NOT filter lan ip you are mostly done.Go to the client you want to migrate TO and search for all the files your old client (the one you want to migrate FROM) is downloading.Download them and your new client will find just one single source,your old client one.The new client will download all the data your old client had downloaded so far and it will store in his temp directory in the proper format.It will do it very fast,if you are migrating between lan machines your lan “speed” will the the bottleneck,so it’s a quite fast procedure.The good thing is that this procedure is universal,if you are able to fireup a server and connect the two clients you will be able to make the migration,it doesn’t matter what client you are/were using as long they support ed2k servers (overnet won’t work)

Skypho e Linux

with one comment

The project started with the philosophy that much academic information should be freely available to anyone. It aims to allow information sharing within internationally dispersed teams, and the dissemination of information by support groups.

Buon Compleanno!!!
